Happy September, Families!

Welcome to the official start of fall! September is always an exciting month as our students settle into daily routines, build new friendships, and dive deep into learning.

As we navigate the start of the year together, here are a few gentle reminders to help keep our school community running smoothly:

  • Attendance Matters: Every day of learning counts! Being here on time helps your child build confidence, stay connected with friends, and establish strong daily habits. If your child needs to miss school, please let our main office know.

  • Routine is Key: Consistent bedtime and morning routines at home make a world of difference in helping your child arrive calm and ready to learn each day.

  • Stay Connected: Keep an eye out for updates on class activities, upcoming events, and school notices. Strong communication between home and school is the secret to a successful year!

  • Practice Patience: Adjusting to new schedules and expectations takes time for little ones (and adults, too!). Celebrate the small wins together each evening.

Thank you for your partnership, energy, and ongoing support. We are so grateful to have your family in our school community!

With Love and Appreciation,
Ms. Katie

UECS Needs a New Playground

UECS currently has a very old wooden playground that is not fully accessible to our students.  We are trying to raise funds for a new one that will cost close to $100,000.  We are on our way with several large donations and grants, but we could use any help we can get.

Please share this link to help us raise even more funds so we can get this playground built for our students as soon as possible.

PBIS at UECS: Being Safe, Kind, and Responsible!

At UECS, we use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) to create a positive, predictable, and safe school environment where every student can thrive. Throughout the day, we teach, model, and celebrate what it looks like to be Tiger Ready by showing three core values:

  • BE SAFE: Making choices that keep our minds and bodies protected.
  • BE KIND: Treating our classmates, teachers, and school spaces with care and respect.
  • BE RESPONSIBLE: Taking ownership of our actions, materials, and routines.
How Families Can Help: Our Bus Lane Safety Freeze!

Right now, we are placing special emphasis on safety during arrival and dismissal. One of our most important rules is that whenever buses are moving in the bus lane, all students and adults must FREEZE and stay still until a staff member gives the all-clear.

You can support our school community at home by talking with your child about why this rule matters:

  • Talk About It: Remind your child that "freezing" keeps them out of danger and helps drivers see everyone clearly.

  • Practice at Home: Make it a game! Practice stopping instantly on command when walking near cars, parking lots, or street corners.

  • Reinforce the Message: Freeze your own body when you walk near our buses or in your neighborhood while large vehicles are moving.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our youngest learners safe, confident, and ready to learn every single day!

Volunteers Always Needed

UECS is always looking for volunteers to help our school run smoothly.  We can use volunteers for special projects such as creating materials for events, helping with our school garden, or even reading to students in classrooms.  If you or someone you know would like to volunteer please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Ms. Ellen Baxter, ebaxter@usd116.org.

In September and October we will celebrate Latine Heritage Month.  Are you a Latine/Hispanic family who would like to share your talents or culture with our school?   Please reach out to Ms. Nelly Alcala (nalcala@usd116.org), Family Coordinator or Ms, Katie Madigan (kmadigan@usd116.org), Principal.
